In 1994, Rojhane Hosseini began her first artistic experiences with ceramic materials in the field of handicrafts - ceramics. First, in accordance with what she learned from university, she began making reliefs and ceramic decorations for home and public space decor. Then, she gained experience in making urban sculptures with ceramics and metal. After receiving her master's degree in painting (2019), she took a break from doing artistic work with ceramics for a while. However, in recent years, she has been using this material to convey concepts in her works with a different perspective. With a critical view of the second-hand treatment of the ceramic medium and arts derived from handicrafts by other artistic disciplines, she tries to use this material purposefully in her works.
She won first prize in the Iranian Women Potters Exhibition (2009) and the 10th Iranian Ceramic Biennial (2011) and has participated in several group exhibitions and foreign biennials and the International Ceramics Symposium - Lithuania 2014. She also has a long history of teaching at Al-Zahra and Soore Universities in the field of ceramics and conducting research activities in the Iranian Ceramic Artists Association. She is currently (2024) an expert and member of the curriculum commission for educational books for the high school level in the technical and vocational training Branch for the handicraft-ceramic art. She has also participated in the writing of several educational books for this major.
Her first serious project that used ceramic material with a conceptual take on the idea of her work was the creation of masculine tools with ceramics in combination with identities that are considered feminine, such as sewing, embroidery and decoration. In her view, a shovel might be ineffective with a fragile material, but feminine adornments have given it another function. In this series of works, she tried to challenge superficial and primary valuations of phenomena.
She now focuses more on the impact of social issues and the repetition of the futile in her works. In the project "Gis Golabton", by focusing on decoration without paying attention to the infrastructure, she created works in which the experience of the process was important to her. It seems that with this project, she has embarked on a new path of Self-analysis influenced by social and political issues and the experience of living in Iran, continuing her artistic career.
Rojhane had experience in the field of art management and organizing specialized exhibitions. she curated the Iranian section at the Fine Craft Biennale 'Revelation', Paris in 2019. Also, in line with the idea that ceramics can have the ability as a media in art, she managed the first ceramic exhibition based on the title 'Breakable' in 2014 and organized and curated the second ceramic exhibition based on the title 'Frontier' with several other curators from Iran, Japan and the United States in 2017. Emphasizing an interdisciplinary approach and using the logic of ceramics in these exhibitions, she invites artists with different specialties to interact and explore common themes. Her goal is to create communication and dialogue between visual artists through the use of ceramics as a media.
